We must first look at what a personal story is and how it can be used in a college writing course.First of all, personal stories are autobiographical writings that detail the life of an individual. This is true for every writer, but it is also true for many people who write about themselves in college writing classes.Personal stories describe our life as well as we can, and we can do that by typing and then describing the events that we saw or experienced. But there is another part of the process that we need to consider when writing a personal story: the ending. What makes a story ending meaningful?For example, if your ending to a story describes character growth, then the reader m ay be left with too many questions. It is a shame to leave the reader hanging on to the last page with no closure. Just as importantly, a well-written story should leave the reader with the impression that the author cared enough about the subject matter to put as much effort into the story as they did to write it. There are some examples of personal story writing that illustrate this point.One type of story that is common among writers is sad stories. The main character finds a relative or a friend who has passed away, and they are consumed with grief and pain. Instead of writing a 'happy ending' where the character's love and happiness are recaptured, the writer can go the opposite direction and give the reader a sad ending to the story.By doing this, the writer is providing a more honest ending for the story because it depicts what the character experiences during that period of time. Unfortunately, in the interest of saving their own feelings, the writer may try to portray a hap py ending for the character. Again, this just isn't realistic.A second way to describe a happy ending is to create an emotional climax at the end of the story. In this case, the ending provides resolution to what the story has been trying to explain throughout the entire story.The possibilities for personal story writing can be very diverse and we need to be creative when we write our stories because there are different kinds of situations that require different ways of ending a story. But when we make the decision to make a story a personal story, the results are very rewarding.
